WWC Preparation Camp Roster Drop

Bev Priestman named her 25-player preliminary roster for the WWC next month. On July 9th, she will announce her official 23-player squad. Of note, Desiree Scott and Nichelle Prince were both named to the roster despite their injuries. Priestman stated that they will be “tight” to make it, but she feels she owes it to them to give them the opportunity to get game-fit.

Marie Levasseur officially made the move to Montpellier from Fleury. As expected, Ashley Lawrence announced her departure from PSG, but her destination has not yet been officially announced.

Sweden

Clarissa Larisey got the start and played 63 minutes for BK Häcken in the Swedish Cup final. They lost 3-0 to Hammarby. In league play, Häcken had a solid rebound, winning 6-0 against Brommapojkarna. Larisey played 80 minutes and scored the fifth goal for Häcken. Sarah Stratigakis started for Vittsjö in a 2-1 loss against Linköpings. Sura Yekka came in the 74th minute. Evelyne Viens played the full match for Kristianstads in a 2-0 win over Norrköping.

The Challenge Cup match between Gotham and Orlando Pride was postponed due to Canadian wildfires causing air pollution over New York. In regular league play, Kailen Sheridan wore the captain’s armband for the San Diego Wave and got the clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Racing Louisville. Gabrielle Carle played the full match for Washington Spirit in a 2-1 win over ACFC. There was a Canadian clash as the Chicago Red Stars played the NC Courage. Sydney Collins was once again not in the roster for the Courage. Bianca St-Georges and Victoria Pickett both started for their respective teams and exited in the 64th minute. The Courage decimated the Red Stars, winning 5-0. OL Reign won against Kansas City Current in a rematch of last year’s semifinal. OL Reign won 2-1, with Jordyn Huitema playing the full match and scoring the game-winner. Quinn entered into the game in the 62nd minute. In a thrilling match between the Houston Dash and Gotham FC, Allysha Chapman and Sophie Schmidt played the full match for the Dash in a 1-1 draw. Both Canadians came close to getting a game-winner for Houston: Chapman assisted on a goal that was called back, and Schmidt had a beautiful chance that hit the crossbar. Lastly, the Orlando Pride beat the Portland Thorns 3-1. Amanda Allen was not in the roster for the Pride. On the other side, Christine Sinclair started and played 67 minutes, whilst Adriana Leon entered in the 83rd minute.
