Twenty-three of the twenty-five players on Priestman’s preliminary World Cup roster flew to Australia this week to begin training. As such, there are fewer Canadians in league play action. There were some transfers announced, however. Cloé Lacasse officially joined Arsenal from Benfica. Taking her place at Benfica was Marie-Yasmine Alidou, who left Famalicão in favour of the Portuguese giants. Lastly, Ashley Lawrence officially announced that she has signed with Chelsea after leaving PSG a few weeks ago.
Sweden
There was a Canadian clash between Evelyne Viens’ Kristianstads and Sarah Stratigakis and Sura Yekka’s Vittsjö. Viens scored the opening goal, but Vittsjö came back to win the match 6-1. Yekka was an unused substitute, and Stratigakis entered in the 78th minute. Clarissa Larisey played 79 minutes in BK Häcken’s 3-0 win over Kalmar.
USA
There weren’t any Canadians in action in Challenge Cup play. The match between the Orlando Pride and Gotham was postponed, and the Canadians on the Wave, Reign, and Thorns were already in Australia.
In regular play, the Washington Spirit fell 0-3 to the Orlando Pride. Gabrielle Carle played the entire match for the Spirit and Amanda Allen entered in the 90th minute for the Pride. The North Carolina Courage won 1-0 against the Houston Dash. Sydney Collins was available off the bench for the Courage, and Victoria Pickett played the last 13 minutes. Lastly, Bianca St-Georges played the entire match for the Chicago Red Stars as they defeated the San Diego Wave 1-0.
