There was some big news on the national team landscape this week as Christine Sinclair announced her impending retirement from the national team. Sinclair will partake in the remaining two international windows of 2023, with her last match for Canada taking place in Vancouver in December. There was also a roster announcement for the upcoming October window. Two new faces, Melissa Dagenais and Emma Regan, are on the roster. This is Dagenais’ first senior call-up and Regan’s first since her first cap in 2018. Dagenais and Regan will now feature in our weekly round-ups, as well as our coverage of club play on Twitter. Unfortunately, it has been a year since Zoe Burns and Sarah Stratigakis have been called-up and therefore, we will not cover them to the same extent.
Australia
Lysianne Proulx earned the start once again for Melbourne City. She played the full match in a 2-1 win. Unfortunately for Proulx, her own error caused Canberra United’s goal and denied her the clean sheet.
Denmark
Emma Regan played the full match for HB Køge and scored the equalizing goal as Køge came from behind to beat Thisted 3-1. Regan was later selected as the player of the match.
England
Adriana Leon earned the start for Aston Villa as they took on Tottenham looking for their first points of the season. Leon played 64 minutes and won the penalty that led to Villa’s first goal. Unfortunately, they ended up falling 4-2 to Tottenham. Shelina Zadorsky was not selected for Tottenham’s game-day squad.
Deanne Rose entered in the 72nd minute for Leicester City in their 1-0 loss against Manchester City. Manchester United bounced back from their mid-week loss in the UWCL and thoroughly beat Everton 5-0. Jayde Riviere played the full match and earned her first professional assist. Kadeisha Buchanan earned her first minutes of the WSL season as she played the first half for Chelsea in their 4-2 win over Brighton.

Jessie Fleming appeared off the bench in the 56th minute, and Ashley Lawrence was an unused substitute. Neither of the Canadians on the Arsenal squad saw the pitch; Cloé Lacasse and Sabrina D’Angelo were both unused substitutes in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Bristol City.
France
Marie Levasseur played the full match for Montpellier against her former club, Fleury. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw. Vanessa Gilles started for Lyon in a 5-1 win over Reims.

Italy
Julia Grosso had the start for Juventus and played the full match in a 2-1 win over Fiorentina. Evelyne Viens also played the full match for Roma against Sampdoria. Earning the start, Viens scored one goal, earned an assist, and won a penalty that was then converted. Roma won 5-0.

NCAA
Melissa Dagenais played the full match for the University of Miami in their first match of the week. Despite making six saves—one of which was her 250th career save—her team lost 1-0 to the University of Virginia. Later in the week, Dagenais played 84 minutes and made 8 saves for Miami against Virginia Tech, but it wasn’t enough as Miami fell 3-0.
Ella Ottey played 84 minutes for Wisconsin in a 3-0 win over the Maryland Terrapins. In their second fixture of the week, Ottey played the full match in a 1-0 upset win over Penn State—a win that qualified Wisconsin for the Big Ten tournament as the third seed. Simi Awujo played 74 minutes for USC in their 1-0 loss to Arizona State, and then played 77 minutes in a 1-1 draw against the Arizona Wildcats. Jade Rose played the full match for Harvard in their 1-0 win over Penn Quakers, which clinched their spot in the Ivy League tournament.
Portugal
Olivia Smith played 25 minutes for Sporting in their 3-0 win against Torreense. Marie-Yasmine Alidou earned the start for Benfica in their 5-0 win over Famalicão.

Sweden
Sura Yekka was an unused substitute for Vittsjö in a 2-0 loss to Rosengård. Clarissa Larisey remains out injured for BK Häcken, who won 1-0 over Uppsala.
USA
Jordyn Huitema and Quinn both started for Reign in their NWSL playoff quarter-final against Angel City FC. Quinn played 64 minutes, and Huitema played 79 minutes before being taken off due to a knee injury. The Reign ended up winning 1-0 and will face San Diego in the semi-final. In the second quarter-final, neither Canadian saw the pitch for the North Carolina Courage: Victoria Pickett was unavailable with a knee injury, and Sydney Collins was an unused substitute. Their seasons came to an end as the Courage lost 2-0 to Gotham FC, who will now face the Portland Thorns in the second NWSL semi-final.

UWCL
The majority of Canadians playing in the UWCL second-round qualifiers stamped their ticket to the group stage. Roma easily beat their opponent once again; Viens earned the start for Roma and scored one goal in their 6-1 win. Larisey, whilst still injured, will be happy to see that her team, BK Häcken, managed to hold on to a 2-1 win and advanced to the group stage. Alidou made her mark for Benfica in their 4-0 win, scoring one goal. Unfortunately for Riviere and Manchester United, they failed to beat Paris Saint-Germain and lost 3-2, ending their hopes at a first-ever UWCL group stage appearance for the club. Riviere played 82 minutes in the match. At the end of the week, the UWCL group stage draw was held: Alidou and Benfica are in group A; Gilles and Lyon are in group B; Viens and Roma are in group C; and, finally, Larisey and BK Häcken are in group D, along with Chelsea and the Canadian trio of Lawrence, Fleming, and Buchanan.
