It was a slower week for our Canadians with only UWCL and A-League games being played. On Wednesday, Evelyne Viens and A.S. Roma faced off against Paris Saint Germain. Despite a strong effort from Viens who played the full 90, Roma fell 1-3. Viens won the free kick at the top of box that led to Roma’s goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, with this loss Roma now sit at the bottom of their group with four points.

Also on Wednesday, the Chelsea trio of Ashley Lawrence, Kadeisha Buchanan, and Jessie Fleming went up against fellow Canadian Clarissa Larisey and BK Haken. For Chelsea, Buchanan and Lawrence had the start and played the full game while Fleming came on in the 59th minute. Larisey had the start for BK Häcken and played 77 minutes. In the 26th minute, Larisey scored her first UWCL group stage goal with a header to level the score 1-1. Chelsea did come back to win the game 3-1, and now sit the the top of their group with eight points.
On Thursday, Vanessa Gilles and Olympique Lyonnais played SK Brann Kvinner. Gilles had the start and played the full 90 in Lyon’s 2-2 draw. Lyon, now with 10 points, keeps their top spot in their group and qualify for the quarter finals.

Marie Alidou had the start for SL Benfica in their game against Eintracht Frankfurt and was subbed off just before injury time. Benfica came back from being down 0-1 to draw Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1. The draw keeps Benfica second in their group.
Lysianne Proulx was in net for Melbourne City in their 1-0 win against Melbourne Victory. Proulx had three saves and her clean sheet keeps Melbourne City in first place in the A-League.
And that’s it for 2023 folks – we will see you in the new year!
