In the first She Believes Cup game, Canada was up against an all too familiar opponent, Brazil, on April 6th. Janine Beckie started the match, marking her return to the CanXNT after suffering an ACL injury last year. Brazil scored first and Vanessa Gilles scored the equalizer off a free kick from Jessie Fleming in the 77th minute. The game would go straight to penalty kicks where Canada would win 4-2. Kailen Sheridan came up big to save Marta’s kick while Ashley Lawrence missed her penalty and Adriana Leon, Jade Rose, Simi Awujo, and Julia Grosso converted theirs.

On April 9th, in the final of the She Believes Tournament, Canada faced the United States. And no, you were not imaging things, for the second time in 30 days, Canada fell to the USWNT in penalty kicks after the game ended 2-2. Adriana Leon opened the scoring, with an assist from Deanne Rose, in the 40th minute. And just like last month, Leon scored a penalty kick in the last few minutes of the game to level it 2-2. The game went straight to penalty kicks where the team fell 5-4. Jessie Fleming, Adriana Leon, Julia Grosso, and Ashley Lawrence all converted theirs, while Jade Rose, Cloé Lacasse, and Evelyne Viens all saw theirs saved.

Canada placed second in the She Believes Tournament, their highest ever finish.

The CanWNT Under-20s played two friendlies, one against the United States and the other against the Germany. Canada would lose 3-1 to the United States and 4-0 to Germany. Jeneva Hernandez-Grey had the start against Germany.

WSL

It was the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup this weekend. Deanne Rose had the start for Leicester City and played 76 minutes in their 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs.

In the second of the semi-finals, it was Jayde Riviere’s Manchester United against Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence’s Chelsea. Riviere was not available for United, due to the same injury that kept her out of the recent Canada camp. Buchanan had the start for Chelsea, playing 70 minutes, while Lawrence came on in the 82nd minute. United would go on to win the game 2-1, their first ever win over Chelsea.

In regular season play, Arsenal won 5-0 over Bristol City. Sabrina D’Angelo earned the clean sheet and Cloé Lacasse came on in the 63rd minute.

Div 1

Latifah Abdu came on in the 78th minute for Dijon in their 2-1 loss to Le Havre on Saturday. Vanessa Gilles came on in the 59th minute for Lyon in their 6-1 win over St-Etienne on Sunday.

Denmark

Emma Regan had the start for HB Køge in their 0-0 draw in the fourth round of the Kvindeligean Championship.

Liga BPI

Olivia Smith had the start for Sporting in their 3-1 win over Marie Alidou’s Benfica. Smith had an assist on the first goal and scored the third. Alidou had the start for Benfica, subbing off at half time.

Melissa Dagneais was in net for Damaiense in their 2-1 win over Ouriense.

Damallsvenskan

The Damallsvenksan season kicked off this weekend. Clarissa Larisey came on in the 81st minute for BK Häcken in their 4-3 win over IFK Norrköping. Larisey scored the third goal in injury time to make it 3-3 and Häcken would go on to win it minutes later.

NWSL

There was three Canadian Clashes in the NWSL this weekend.  

On Friday, Sophie Schmidt and the Houston Dash faced Gabby Carle and the Washington Spirit. Despite an early goal from the Dash, the Spirit would go on to win the game 3-1. Both Schmidt and Carle played the full 90, with Carle earning the assist on the Spirit’s third goal.

It has gone from bad to worse for the Canadian Trio in Portland. On Saturday, in the second of the Canadian Clashes, the Thorns fell 2-0 to the North Carolina Courage. The Thorns now sit at the bottom of the table with one point after four games. Janine Beckie started for the Thorns, coming off in the 59th minute for Jessie Fleming, and Christine Sinclair entered the match in the 72nd minute. Bianca St-Georges played the final 13 minutes for the Courage and Sydney Collins remains unavailable due to her ankle injury.

For the last Canada Clash game of the weekend, the Bay went up against Seattle Reign on Sunday. Lysianne Proulx was not available for the Bay after an injury caused her to withdraw from the Canada camp earlier this month. For the Reign, Quinn came on in the 72nd minute while Jordyn Huitema was unavailable – also due to an injury she suffered during the latest international break.

On Saturday, Kailen Sheridan was in net for the San Diego Wave in their 0-0 draw, her third clean sheet in four games for the Wave. Megan Reid earned her first start of the season for Angel City in their 1-0 win against the Chicago Red Stars.

Desiree Scott continues her return to play after her injury last season, and was an unused sub for Kansas City in their 1-1 draw with Gotham FC on Sunday. Nichelle Prince was unavailable for Kansas City due to the calf injury she suffered during the Gold Cup. Kansas City remains unbeaten and sit at the top of the table with 10 points.

Serie A Femminile

On Monday it was the the Serie A Femminile Championship Group Round 4, with Evelyne Viens’s Roma against Julia Grosso’s Juventus. Grosso had the start and played the full match and Viens came on in the 60th minute. Viens scored the game winner in the 85th minute to make it 2-1.
