CanadaWNT played two friendlies in their Summer Send-Off series—their last home matches before the 2024 Paris Olympics start next month. Perhaps more cruicially, it was Bev Priestman’s last chance to assess players before naming her 18 player (+ 4 alternates) roster. The first match against Mexico started slowly, and then the substitutes made a difference in the second half. Adriana Leon scored her ninth goal of 2024 alone, and Cloé Lacasse sealed the deal in the 2-0 win. Évelyne Viens assisted both goals.

The second match ended in a 1-1 draw. Kadeisha Buchanan scored a header off a curved ball into the box from Shelina Zadorsky to give the Canadians the lead, but a misstep in the midfield allowed the Mexicans to draw level. It was a memorable match for Zadorsky as she earned and celebrated her 100th cap in front of her hometown crowd. In her press conference after the match, Priestman mentioned that she has committed to naming the Olympic roster by June 30th.

League1

In League1 Ontario, Annabelle Chukwu has already played three matches for NDC Ontario in the month of June. In a 4-0 win over Simcoe County Rovers, Chukwu played the first half. Chukwu scored in NDC Ontario’s 2-2 draw against the Woodbridge Strikers. Finally, Chukwu entered in the second half in a 2-0 win over Alliance United. In League1 British Columbia, Jeneva Hernandez-Gray scored for the Whitecaps in a blowout 10-2 victory over Altitude FC.

NWSL

The Houston Dash continued their rocky season with a 2-0 loss to Racing Louisville. Allysha Chapman remained on maternity leave, whilst Sophie Schmidt played 86 minutes for the Dash. Kailen Sheridan had a good showing in net for the San Diego Wave, making 5 saves in a 1-1 draw with the Orlando Pride. She also made her 500th NWSL save. For Angel City, Megan Reid started the match in a 2-1 loss against Gotham FC.

Lysianne Proulx was on the bench for Bay FC in their 2-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars in a historic match at Wrigley Field. In Utah, Gabby Carle played the full match for Washington in a 1-0 win over the Utah Royals.

The narrow scoreline storyline continued as the Portland Thorns beat North Carolina Courage 1-0. Four of five recent CanXNT call-ups played, with Sydney Collins still sidelined with her ankle injury. Jessie Fleming earned the start for the Thorns before being subbed off in 90+7. Janine Beckie and Christine Sinclair both entered off the bench, in the 35th and 67th minutes respectively. Bianca St-Georges played the full match for the Courage.

Despite injury worries after taking a worrisome hit in the CanWNT friendlies, Jordyn Huitema played the full match for the Reign in a 5-2 loss to Kansas City Current. Huitema scored two goals—the first of which was her first of this NWSL season. It was an encouraging performance after she has been sidelined for much of the 2024 NWSL season due to injury. Quinn remained unavailable due to their knee injury. For the Current, Nichelle Prince was also ruled out due to a knee injury, and Desiree Scott entered in the 88th minute.

Player of the Week: Jordyn Huitema

Goals: 7 (Buchanan x 1, Chukwu x 1, Hernandez-Gray x 1, Huitema x 2, Lacasse x 1, Leon x1)

Assists: 3 (Viens x 2, Zadorsky x 1)
