On Canada Day, Bev Priestman unveiled her 18-player (plus four alternate) roster for the Olympic games. Moreover, Canada will be playing one “B” international friendly against Australia and one closed-doors friendly against Nigeria as preparation.

Canada

Annabelle Chukwu played the first half for NDC Ontario in their League1 Ontario 3-2 win over Woodbridge Strikers. Anna Karpenko was unavailable for the Vaughan Azzurri after recently making a league team of the week for her performance. In League1 British Columbia, Jeneva Hernandez-Gray played 71 minutes for the Whitecaps in a 3-1 win over Harbourside FC.

Sweden

After spraining her foot, Clarissa Larisey was back in BK Häcken’s squad for their match against Trelleborgs FF. She was an unused substitute as her team won 7-0.

USA

The first NWSL match of the week saw the Portland Thorns play the San Diego Wave. Kailen Sheridan was in net for the Wave and made some incredible saves to keep her team in it; however, the Wave fell 1-0 to the Thorns. Canadian trio Christine Sinclair, Janine Beckie, and Jessie Fleming all started for the Thorns, with Beckie providing the assist on the goal.

Neither Canadian featured for Kansas City in their first loss of the season, a 1-2 loss to the Orlando Pride. Desiree Scott was an unused substitute and Nichelle Prince is already in Spain, training with the national team for the Olympics.

The Houston Dash faced off against the Chicago Red Stars—Julia Grosso’s new team. Sophie Schmidt had an impressive match for the Dash, but ultimately, Chicago took the game 1-0. Allysha Chapman was an unused substitute.

Megan Reid entered in the 67th minute for Angel City in a 1-2 loss to Gotham FC. Lysianne Proulx once again served as backup keeper for the Bay in a 3-0 loss to the Washington Spirit. For the Spirit, Gabrielle Carle played the full match.

Similarly to the Kansas match, neither Bianca St-Georges nor Sydney Collins featured for the Courage in their 3-1 win over Louisville. St-Georges was unavailable due to injury, and Collins is already with the national team.

Finally, Quinn and Jordyn Huitema both started for Seattle in a 1-1 draw with Utah. Huitema earned the assist on Seattle’s equalizer.
