CanXNT

The CanXNT had two friendlies in Spain before heading off to France for the Olympics. Neither game was an official game, as the first game against Australia was considered a B Level friendly, and the second game against Nigeria was a closed door friendly. The team beat Australia 2-1 after going down 1-0, with goals from Nichelle Prince (rebound) and Evelyne Viens (off of a Gabrielle Carle assist). The team won 1-0 against Nigeria, with Jordyn Huitema scoring the lone goal.

On Saturday July 20th it was announced that Sydney Collins had to withdraw from the Olympics due to an injury she sustained in the Nigeria game. Gabrielle Carle has moved into the 18 and Desiree Scott has been called in as an alternate.

The team will play the opening game of the Olympics on Thursday July 25th at 8am PT/11pm EST against New Zealand.

 

League 1

Jeneva Hernandez-Gray was not available for the Whitecaps for their last games of the regular season. The Whitecaps Girls Elite ended their season unbeaten, a first time for any team in League 1 BC’s history.

On Tuesday July 9th, Annabelle Chukwu played the second half for NDC Ontario in their 3-1 win over Guelph. On Saturday July 13th, Chukwu played the second half and scored one goal for NDC Ontario in their 3-1 win. Chukwu would then play 83 minutes on July 19th in their 2-0 win over North Toronto FC. NDC Ontario has secured first place in League 1 Ontario Women’s Premiere Division.

On Wednesday, July 10th Anna Karpenko was in net for Vaughan in their 0-0 draw with Simcoe County. Karpenko was back in action on the 14th as she was in net for Vaughan in their 2-2 draw with North Mississauga. Karpenko kept the clean sheet for Vaughan on Sunday July 21st in their 0-0 draw with Guelph United.

 

NWSL

The NWSL’s summer NWSL x Liga MX Femenil tournament kicked off on July 19th. Bianca St-Georges was unavailable for the North Carolina Courage due to injury. The Courage defeated the Orlando Pride 5-4 on penalty kicks after the game ended 1-1.

Sophie Schmidt and Allysha Chapman both had the start for the Dash in their 3-1 loss to the KC Current. Schmidt played the full game and Chapman played 72 minutes, her first minutes for club or country since going on maternity leave after the World Cup. For the Current, Desiree Scott came on in the 64th minute.

Megan Reid played the full 90 for Angel City in their 2-1 win over Club América.

Christine Sinclair played 77 minutes and scored the opening goal for the Thorns in their 5-0 win over Club Tijuana.
