On Monday, Canada Soccer confirmed the rumours that Casey Stoney would be named the new Head Coach of the Women’s program. Stoney has signed a three-year contract, taking the team through the 2027 World Cup with an option for 2028. The team will play a three-match series in the Pinatar Cup in Spain next month.

The Seattle Reign announced that Quinn, now a free agent, would not be returning to the club this upcoming season. As of now, there is no news about where they will be signing next.

Liga BPI

On January 5th, Marie Alidou entered the match in the 66th minute for Benfica in their 3-1 win over Braga. In Benfica’s match against Torreense on the 10th, Alidou played 60 minutes in the 1-1 draw.

Serie A

Juventus won their friendly 5-0 against Marseille on the 6th; Lysianne Proulx was not in the starting line-up. Proulx was the backup keeper for Juventus in their 3-0 club win over UC Sampdoria.

Roma won the Women’s Super Cup Final with a 3-1 win over Fiorentina – Evelyne Viens was an unused sub. Viens made her return from injury on the 12th, entering in the 62nd minute for Roma in their 2-1 loss to Inter.

Vanessa Gilles played the full game and scored one goal for Lyon in their 2-0 win over Dijon. In shocking news, the team bows out of the Coupe de France in the Round of 32 after a penalty loss to Reims. Gilles played the full game, which ended 0-0, and converted her penalty in the 9-10 shootout loss.

WSL

The fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup too place this week. Unfortunately, due to frozen pitch conditions, Leicester City’s (Deanne Rose) game against Stoke City and West Ham’s (Shelina Zadorsky) game against Liverpool (Olivia Smith) were postponed.

Manchester United won their game against West Bromwich Albion 7-0. Jayde Riviere played 66 minutes and Simi Awujo was not available.

Ashley Lawrence was an unused sub for Chelsea in their 4-0 win over Charlton. Kadeisha Buchanan remains unavailable for Chelsea due to her injury. Sabrina D’Angelo and Adriana Leon both played the first half for Aston Villa’s 9-0 defeat of Bristol Rovers.
