Canada

Emma Regan played the full match for AFC Toronto in their 1-0 victory over Halifax Tides. Four CanWNT players started for Vancouver Rise in their 6-0 routing of Calgary Wild: Samantha Chang, Quinn, Holly Ward, and new transfer Latifah Abdu. Abdu made her mark in her Rise debut, scoring two goals in her 55 minutes on the pitch.

Quinn and Ward both played the full match, with the former converting a penalty and assisting two goals, and the latter earning an assist. Chang played 62 minutes. The high scores did not translate to the final match of the week: a scoreless draw between Ottawa Rapid and Montreal Roses. Desiree Scott played 79 minutes for the Rapid.

Confederation Play

In the CONCACAF W Champions Cup Zara Chavoshi earned some rare playing time, playing the full match for Orlando Pride in their 3-0 win against Alajuelens. The Washington Spirit also won their group stage match; they beat Canadian representatives Vancouver Rise Academy 4-0. Gabby Carle played the second half for the Spirit.

England – WSL

The 2025-2026 WSL season kicked off this weekend. The first match happened on Friday between Manchester City and Chelsea. Jade Rose made her professional debut, playing the full match for City, whereas Chelsea player Kadeisha Buchanan remained unavailable due to her ACL. The match finished with a scoreline of 2-1 in favour of defending champions Chelsea. Olivia Smith made her Arsenal debut in style, scoring a stunning equalizer in her 61 minutes of play. Arsenal would go on to win 4-1 against the newly-promoted London City Lionesses.

Sabrina D’Angelo started in net for Aston Villa and kept the clean sheet, but was forced off due to injury at the beginning of the second half. Aston Villa earned one point, playing to a scoreless draw with Brighton. Manchester United started their season well with a 4-0 win over Leicester Ciy. Jayde Riviere played the full match and earned an assist on one of their goals, whereas Simi Awujo was unavailable, still a few weeks out from returning from injury. Shelina Zadorsky was unable to get revenge on her former club as she and West Ham narrowly lost 1-0 to Tottenham. Zadorsky played the full match.

England – WSL2

Deanne Rose made her debut for her new club, Nottingham Forest. She started and played 68 minutes in their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

France

Marie Levasseur was unavailable for Montpellier’s season opener, a 2-1 defeat against Fleury. Ashley Lawrence made her debut for her new club, OL Lyonnes, as she played 60 minutes in their 3-1 win against Marseille.

Germany

Vanessa Gilles made her Frauen-Bundesliga debut in style, scoring the first goal of the match for her new team Bayern München. Gilles played the full match as they won 2-0 over Bayer Leverkusen.

Italy

Both Canadians in Serie A were once again unavailable due to injury: Evelyne Viens missed her team Roma win 1-0 against Milan, and Lysianne Proulx was absent as Juventus lost 1-0 to Lazio. Both matches were in the Serie A Women’s Cup.

Sweden

Carly Wickenheiser earned her team a point, scoring the lone goal for BK Häcken in their 1-1 draw with Kristianstads DFF. She played 73 minutes.

USA – NCAA

In FSU’s first match of the week, Janet Okeke played the full game as they won 7-0 against Stetson-Military. There was also a rare matchup between CanWNT stars as MSU’s Kayla Briggs and Noelle Henning were against Notre Dame’s Annabelle Chukwu. Thanks to Chukwu’s hat-trick in 64 minutes of play, Notre Dame won 3-0. For MSU, Briggs played 72 minutes, and Henning was in net. Ella Ottey played 69 minutes for Wisconsin in a routine 3-0 win over NIU. Nyah Rose also had a great first match of the week, scoring one goal and assisting another for SMU in their 3-0 victory over Houston Christian. N. Rose played 62 minutes.

On the second match-day of the week, Okeke played 57 minutes for FSU in their 5-0 win over FAU. For Wisconsin, Ottey played the full match as they won 1-0 over Colorado. Finally, N. Rose started and played a total of 60 minutes for SMU as they won 3-1 over Sam Houston.

USA – NWSL

The first NWSL match of the weekend was a close one, with Portland Thorns eking out a 2-1 win over Racing Louisville. Jessie Fleming started the match and forced Louisville’s own goal to give Portland the three points. Mimi Alidou entered in the 64th minute for Portland, and on the other side, Janine Sonis played the full match for Louisville. Both Bianca St-Georges and Cloé Lacasse featured for Utah Royals as they earned a point against the North Carolina Courage in a 1-1 draw. It was Lacasse’s first start since she returned from her ACL injury, and she played 64 minutes. St-Georges came off the bench in the 78th minute. Nichelle Prince made the most of her time on the pitch—she subbed on in the 68th minute—and earned an assist for Kansas City Current in their 2-0 win over Bay FC.

Julia Grosso had a great game for Chicago Stars, scoring one goal and assisting another as Chicago picked up important points in a 5-2 win against Orlando. Grosso exited in 90+1, and Chavoshi was unavailable for Orlando. Washington Spirit won 2-0 over Seattle Reign; Carle played the full match for the Spirit, and Jordyn Huitema lasted 82 minutes for the Reign. Angel City lost 3-1 to Gotham; Megan Reid played 72 minutes, earning a rare start for ACFC.

In the last match of the week, Clarissa Larisey earned her first NWSL start for the Houston Dash. She played 53 minutes, and in the first half, earned both her first goal and first assist for her new club, helping Houston to a 3-0 win over San Diego Wave. For the Wave, Kailen Sheridan was in net, and Adriana Leon earned the start, playing 63 minutes.
