National Team
Olivia Smith’s injury shortly before the international break kept her from joining the team. Megan Reid was called in to replace her.
In their first game of the SheBelieves Cup, Canada ended their eight-month scoring drought with an emphatic 4-1 win over Colombia. Vanessa Gilles opened the scoring with a header from a Janine Sonis corner. The second goal came directly from a free kick from Sonis, her first goal for Canada since 2022. Sydney Collins scored her first international goal, a header, and Nichelle Prince’s goal came near the end of the game, assisted by Cloé Lacasse. DB Pridham and Brooklyn Courtnall both made their international debuts.

Canada’s second game came with a 1-0 loss to the United States, an improvement from their 3-0 loss last summer. The team was without its captain as Jessie Fleming was out due to illness.
Canada ended the tournament against Argentina, winning 3-2 win on penalties after the game ended 0-0 in regular time. It marks Sheridan’s first clean sheet since a 3-0 win over Argentina in April 2025. Jordyn Huitema saw her penalty saved while Fleming, Sonis, and Julia Grosso all converted theirs. Kailen Sheridan made two huge penalty saves to help her team get the win. Kaylee Hunter received her first cap and first start.

Canadians were on the move this week, with Huitema and Holly Ward signing with new teams. Huitema joined the Chicago Stars after spending three seasons with the Seattle Reign; her contract runs through the 2028 season. Seattle wasn’t without a Canadian for long, however, as it was announced that Ward would join the team through the 2027 season. Ward last played with the Vancouver Rise in the Northern Super League, scoring the goal that won her team the championship.
France
Ashley Lawrence played 73 minutes for OL Lyonnes in their 3-0 win over Le Havre. Florianne Jourde played the final 6 minutes for PSG over Marseillie. Montpellier continues to struggle this season, falling 2-1 to Lens; Marie Levasseur played the full game. Emily Burns kept the clean sheet for Nantes in their 2-0 win over Fleury Merogis.
In the Coupe de la Ligue Française Final, Lawrence’s OL Lyonnes defeated Florianne Jourde’s PSG 1-0. For Lyonnes, Lawrence played the full game while Jourde was an unused sub.
In the Coupe de France Féminine Quarter Finals, Nantes fell 1-0 to Stransbourg; Burns was in net.
Germany
Gilles played the full game for Bayern München in the in the DFB Pokal Frauen Quarter-Final. Bayern won 3-0 over Hamburger SV. In regular seaon play, Gilles played the final nine minutes for Bayern in their 3-0 win over FC Köln.
England
In regular WSL season play, Jade Rose played the full game for Manchester City in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. Sabrina D’Angelo served as backup keeper for Villa. Smith played 72 minutes for Arsenal and scored one goal in their 2-0 win over the London City Lionesses.
Manchester United lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the final of the Women’s League Cup; Jayde Riviere played 59 minutes and Simi Awujo played the final four minutes.
In WLS2 action, Deanne Rose was unavailable for Nottingham Forest who drew Sunderland 1-1. Lysianne Proulx was unavailable for Ipswich who won 2-1 over Durham Women. Then on the weekend, Rose played the final 16 minutes for Nottingham in their 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Italy
In the first leg of the Coppa Italia Women Semi-Final Roma drew Inter 1-1. Evelyne Viens played 77 minutes for Roma and earned the assist. In regular season play, Viens played the full game for Roma’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina.
United States
The NWSL season kicked off with a Canadian Clash when the Portland Thorns took on the Washington Spirit with Portland coming away with a 1-0 win. For the Thorns, Mimi Alidou played 85 minutes and Fleming played the full game; for the Spirit, Gabby Carle played 84 minutes.

Boston Legacy played their first game, a 1-0 loss to Gotham FC. Prince had the start and captained her team, playing 82 minutes, while Bianca St-Georges played 79 minutes before receiving her second yellow of the match and exiting the game. The Utah Royals lost 2-1 to the KC Current; Lacasse played the full game and assisted the Royals’ first ever goal against the Current.
In another Canadian Clash, Bay FC defeated expansion team the Denver Summit 2-1. For Bay FC, Courtnall and Collins both played the full match with Collins captaining her team. For Denver, Emma Regan and Sonis, who wore the armband, both had the start with Megan Reid beginning the match on the bench. Sonis earned the assist for Denver’s first ever goal, however shortly after she received a straight red card in the 27th minute and left the game. Regan exited the match at half time with Reid playing the final four minutes.
Sheridan and Carly Wickenheiser both had the start for their new team, helping the North Carolina Courage to a 2-1 win over Racing Louisville. The Houston Dash defeated the San Diego Wave 1-0. Clarissa Larisey entered in the 57th minute for the Dash and Adriana Leon was unavailable for the Wave due to a back injury. Neither Zara Chavoshi (Orlando Pride) nor Ward (Seattle Reign) were available for their teams this week; Reign defeated the Pride 2-1.
In the last game of the week, both Huitema and Grosso played the full game for the Chicago Stars who suffered a tough 4-0 loss to Angel City.
