The NSL set a new attendance record in Montréal this weekend, with a crowd of 17,077 fans watching the home crowd win 1-0 over Halifax Tides. Mimi Alidou played the full match and earned the assist on the game-winner.
In the Battle of Ontario, AFC Toronto broke their winless BMO curse and came out victorious with a 2-1 win over Ottawa Rapid. Kaylee Hunter earned a goal and an assist in her 90+4 minutes of play, a good farewell for her as she heads to the U20 WWC. Sabrina D’Angelo and Shelina Zadorsky played the full match for Toronto. For Ottawa, Melissa Dagenais was in net, and DB Pridham didn’t play; she was declared injured on the broadcast.
France
The second round of the Coupe de la Ligue française féminine league phase took place this weekend. Emily Burns was in net for her new club, Marseille, in their 3-0 win. We also missed a game last week—the first round of the league phase—when Burns earned a clean sheet in another 3-0 win, this time against Toulouse.
Germany
Vanessa Gilles entered in the 65th minute for Bayern München in league play. She scored a goal—a header off a corner—in the dying minutes, cementing Bayern’s 2-0 win over Mainz 05.
USA
In NWSL action, North Carolina defeated Angel City in a midweek fixture. Carly Wickenheiser earned the start and played 85 minutes. Kailen Sheridan was in net, earning a clean sheet in the Courage’s 2-0 win, and she earned a rare goalkeeper assist.
On Friday, Portland and Gotham drew 1-1; Jessie Fleming played the full match for the Thorns. San Diego emerged victorious over Racing Louisville by a scoreline of 3-2. Adriana Leon entered in the 90th minute, and Brooklyn Courtnall was an unused substitute, again raising questions about the effectiveness of her loan to the Wave. North Carolina Courage couldn’t keep their Wednesday luck going and fell 3-2 to Kansas City. Sheridan was once again in net, and Wickenheiser played the first half. Utah Royals defeated Orlando Pride 2-1, with Cloé Lacasse once again playing a pivotal role, earning a goal and an assist in her 90 minutes of play. For the Pride, Zara Chavoshi entered in the 65th minute.
It was a game of milestones and goals as Denver Summit triumphed 6-1 over the struggling Chicago Stars. For the Summit, Emma Regan and Megan Reid earned rare starts, both playing the full match, and Janine Sonis continued her brilliant form, scoring another goal and going the distance. Sonis also reached 10,000 regular-season minutes played in the NWSL. For Chicago, Julia Grosso entered at the start of the second half and scored their lone goal. This marked Grosso’s 50th regular-season appearance for Chicago (and in the NWSL). Jordyn Huitema remained unavailable with her ACL injury.
The Washington Spirit earned a 1-0 victory against Bay FC. Gabby Carle played the full match for Washington, whereas Élisabeth Tsé did not feature off the bench; for Bay, Sydney Collins also went the distance. In Seattle’s 1-0 win over Houston, Holly Ward entered in the 88th minute for the victors. In Monday’s lone fixture, Nichelle Prince earned an assist in 62 minutes of play for Boston Legacy as they lost to Angel City by a score of 5-2.
In the NCAA, Annabelle Chukwu did not feature for Notre Dame as they continued their lacklustre start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Michigan. Finally, in the USL Super League, Jordyn Listro played 85 minutes for Tampa Bay Sun in their 2-1 win over Carolina Ascent.
UWCL
The first leg of the third round of UWCL Qualifiers took place this week. Florianne Jourde was an unused substitute for PSG as they drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt. Kadeisha Buchanan also didn’t feature for Chelsea as they avoided a scare from Real Sociedad to come away with a 5-2 victory.
